Beaches in the City of Catania
The coast that is undoubtedly preferred by the locals is the Playa, a long sandy beach extending for about 3 kilometers in the south of the city. Quite a number of different beaches make it possible to satisfy every need, from the deck to the slopes for beach sport, all sorts of good food at your whim. In the evening, those who enjoy spending carefree evenings by the sea shouldn’t go without experiencing an organized party on the shores, often with internationally renowned DJs.
From Piazza Europa the cliffed shore begins, large lava blocks on which the people of Catania take the sun a bit ‘all year round. The water is fresh and clear, even if access is not the most simple: for this reason, during the summer you will find wooden sun decks, where you can easily soak up the sun and from which the descent into the sea is not at all dangerous.
San Giovanni Li Cuti, near the cliff, is a small and picturesque beach right in the center of Catania. Its black sand is one of the many summer attractions: the peculiarity of this environment makes it a favorite destination for local holiday takers.
It continues to the north, the direction of Ognina, where the waves slowly caress the big rocks of lava with Etna at their shoulders. The sea has an intense color, the water is clean, and the sun heats the surrounding environment: nothing is missing for quite a refreshing dip.
