Located in the heart of Sicily, the Sicani Regional Park extends over the provinces of Agrigento and Palermo, over a large surface area in excess of 40,000 hectares, where you can admire beautiful landscapes, previously seperated into 4 different natural reserves.
The morphology of the territory is typicallymade up of aplateauwith peaking hills and mountain ranges isolated one from anotherthat riseup to 1500meters of altitude.
Thanks to its heights, the park has several water currents that allow for the lush vegetation of about 700 different species, with large and picturesque valleys of orchids, oak forests and wooded areas intact in all their natural splendor.
The alternation of different natural habitats is highlighted even more in the different species of wildlife and birdlife. Among the mammals, during a hike in the protected area, it will not be hard to spot some fox, wild cat or porcupine. Looking up instead, you will see a golden eagle and the Bonelli’s eagle swoop down while on the hunt.
The forests of the Sicani park lend themselves well for the nesting of red peaks, the capovacciano (a typical vulture in the area) and the Sicilian Rock Partridge, a species which has had in recent times a large decrease of its numbers.
For those who love hiking, horseback riding or mountain biking and who seek nothing but days to live completely immersed in a natural landscape in the center of Sicily, the Sicani Park offers dozens of trails of different difficulties, to discover the most hidden parts the island. Within the area, in addition to the peaks, valleys, vast forests, waterfalls and streams, the park also includes areas of historical and archaeological importance, incorporating inside twelve municipalities of the Sicilian hinterland.
